1999 Chevy Malibu Wont Turn Over After Repairs

My 99 3400 v6 Chevrolet Malibu overheated and I blew a head gasket so I recently tore it down and replaced the head gaskets as well as all the other gaskets. I then replaced all the fluids including the oil and I had a full tank when my car overheated. Everything is now back together but when I tried to start the car it would not turn over it attempted to and almost did but it never turned over.

When the key was turned the engine tried to turn over but off to the side of the engine on the driver side close to the firewall there was a semi white high pressured puff of smoke so I went back and tightened down the exhaust bolts again ...I replaced the battery checked the alternator and my car still won't turn over.

Answer: Not sure of your mechanical expertise, but i would assume the engine was re-assembled correctly. Timing correct if you replaced the chain, push rods in the correct order, etc. Assuming battery cables and grounds are clean and tight, check to see if you can turn the engine over with a socket and ratchet on the front crank bolt. Let me know...

Malibu Starts And Dies

2004 Chevy Malibu ls V6. Question: Having starting problems. Sometimes my car will start up fine, then it will start then shut off. When i give it gas while turning the ignition key it starts up. Also stalls out. Why is this happening and what is the solution?

Answer: You may have one of two common problems. There may be carbon buildup in the throttle and idle air control motor. A good cleaning with carb or intake system cleaner would be all that is needed. Carbon in the throttle causes hard starting. Pressing the gas pedal a little allows more air to enter the engine, that the carbon may be blocking. Another common thing is a leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). When these fail, fuel enters the regulator vacuum line and intake system causing a rich condition- similar to being flooded as with an older carburetor vehicle. That causes hard starting that can be cleared up by revving it up a few times. Sometimes a check engine light will be on with a scan showing a code for a Rich condition.

Car Dies At High Speeds

Why would my car stall out and die while driving 75 or 80 miles an hour then start right back up and drive. I did have the air conditioning on but after realizing what went on i turned off.

Answer: This could be a problem with a failing fuel pump or an ignition problem, like a bad ignition module. We really need to know what make and model vehicle you have and you need to find out if the engine is loosing spark or not.
