2009 Ford Taurus Engine Size : 6 cyl
Question : Does a fuel pump need replacing if it's not giving any problems...only mileage (80K)? Also, is there a way to know for certain that there's only 1 month left on battery life?
Answer: There is no reason to replace a fuel pump as a maintenance item if you do not have any running or starting problems. The only exception if it your mechanic is going to have the fuel pump out for some other reason- like replacing the fuel level sensor- then it may be a good idea to replace the pump while they are in there- just because of the mileage. There is no way on earth any mechanic or machine can predict a battery is going to go bad in a month, 3 months etc.
All the most expensive testing equipment can only tell you if the battery is bad right not, or weak. Some mechanics may think they can say that "the battery is very weak, you only have a month left in it" but a time frame is impossible to guess. A very weak battery can go bad tomorrow or in 4 months- no way to tell. Sounds like someone is trying to sell you some things that are not bad right now, but may go bad in the future. Any part can go bad at any time without notice.
Ford Taurus Battery Goes Dead
I have a 2005 Ford Taurus. Several weeks ago I was having trouble starting the car without a jump. Replaced the battery. Continued to have the problem.I took it to a mechanic after having a diagnostic test which said nothing was wrong with the car. The mechanic replaced the alternator and serpentine belt, and a small part for the air conditioner. After a couple of days, I again could not start the car without a jump. I again took it to an auto part store for diagnostics and again it said nothing was wrong with the car. However this time the car ran without a problem for 11 days!
Answer: The fact that the battery goes dead overnight sometimes- this is called a parasitic draw. Something is staying powered up. When it is acting up you are going to have to find out what is staying on. You would need an amp meter inline with the battery positive cable to look for a reading of something drawing over .30 amps. When you have this condition, remove fuses one by one. When the draw goes away, that was the circuit that was draining the battery and needs to be repaired.
Ford Taurus Many Problems
I have had the fuel pump, alternator and the electrical plug for the crank shaft positioning sensor. Replaced it ran for a couple hours long enough to pass the inspection. On our drive to the courthouse it died and I had to have it jumped off.
Got home but before I got home and charged it better and then when I arrived home turned it off. Try to turn it on again it would only click. Air is not working in my air conditioner is not working in my windows are not working what do I do. What would be my next step the fuel filter or the starter relay? What do I need to do cuz it ran pretty good except something is just not right and I don't know any mechanic around here that can help me.
Answer: You need to have the alternator and the battery checked. If the alternator is not charging, the battery will die. That is the reason you had to get a jump start. That may also be the reason the air conditioning is not working and the windows too.
A bad battery will cause all kinds of electrical problems on your Ford.
