2005 Ford F-150 Super Crew 4x4.
Engine Size : 5.4 V8.
Question: On several occasions, I have been driving down the road and noticed that the transmission in my Ford isn't shifting correctly. It seems to shift into a higher gear and the truck starts to run sluggishly.
If I attempt to accelerate the transmission will not downshift. The wrench light on the dash comes on. If I pull over and turn off the truck and then restart it, the light goes off and the transmission starts to function normally again. It seems to be a sensor or computer. Can you give me any suggestions or advice on my Ford?
Answer: The warning light on the dash is the key to the shifting problem. You need to scan the computer for trouble codes. The code number would show if the problem is inside the transmission. Like a shift solenoid, torque converter circuit, input or output speed sensor, etc. It could also be related to an engine sensor.
A problem with a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), Mass airflow sensor or several others. No way to tell without a scan. There may also be a re-flash of the Powertrain Computer(PCM) to correct the problem on your truck. The Ford dealer would be the only place to have it checked for a programming update, and have it re-flashed.
Acts Like /in Neutral When Steeping on Gas
Mercury Sable.
Question: Whatever gear auto is in it acts like the neutral gear when stepping on gas it seems like it is in neutral.
Answer: Be sure to check the fluid level and condition. See if it smells or looks sort of burnt. It it is, suggest a fluid and filter change. Aside from that, sounds like a possible valve body problem internal to the trans. The valve body houses the control valves for the transmission. If one were stuck, it can cause this neutral condition. This is not a something that can be done in you garage. This would need to be looked at by a transmission mechanic.
2001 f-150 4x4 4.6 engine swap
I want to swap my 4.6 for a 5.4 engine and want to know what will match up and what will not so i can buy the proper things to make this happen.
Answer: Although the engine will bolt up to the transmission just fine, there are a lot of things that will need to be changed. Many things are different.
Engine mounts are different, A/C compressor and lines routing are not the same. Engine wiring harness are different because of sensor plugs and locations. Exhaust manifold and pipes run differently. Power steering system is not in the same position. To get a full list of items, check with your dealer.
F-150 Cranks And Cranks Before It Starts
Question: I have a 1997 F-150. I have a problem where it cranks won't start. I traced it down to the fuel. Doesn't pump all the time but it has always started just have to crank and crank. Sometimes it will start first try. was told it doesn't have a pressure sensor on the fuel rail. Any help?Answer: Having to crank over and over is usually the sign of low fuel pressure. Specifically the fuel pressure prime. Cranking several times slowly builds pressure until it is high enough to start the engine. Start by replacing the fuel filter. If it is restricted, it will cause this problem. The next thing would be a possible faulty / weak fuel pump. You would need to confirm this by using a fuel pressure gauge and watch to see if pressure builds higher every time you cycle the key and crank again and again.
