1990 Nissan Sentra Rear Brake Drums Will Not Come Off

1990 Nissan Sentra 1.8L
Question: I have removed rear brake drum cotter pin and wheel nut from axle. I cannot figure out how to get drum off as it will not pull off.

Answer: It is just probably stuck. May be rusted on. Also, a ridge develops on the outer portion of the drum and does not let the brake shoes slide past. This happens on older vehicles, Nissan and every other car. Use a hammer to hit the drum while pulling. See if that works. If not, you will need to hit the drum with 2 hammers from the rear- 180 degrees apart. This will usually allow you to work it free. It may take a while and the shoes may get pulled out, but you would be replacing them anyway. There may also be a small rubber grommet on the backing plate. Remove that and you can use a screw driver to loosen the shoe adjuster to allow them to get part the ridge in the brake drum.

Nissan Will Not Crank Over

Question: The engine will turn over but will will not crank, the shop says it's not firing...it's not getting any fire.

Answer: An engine cranking and turning over is the same thing. You have an engine that cranks but wont start. Not getting fire means there is no spark at the spark plugs. You could have a bad ignition module or other ignition component.
