1997 SUNFIRE. Engine Size : 2.2 Ecotec.

Question: I HAVE A 97 SUNFIRE WITH A 2.2 AND ITS ON ITS LAST LEG!!! I ALSO HAVE A 99 CHEVY CAVALIER WITH AN AWESOME 2.2!!! WILL IT BE THE SAME MOTOR ?? CAN I SWAP IT AND WILL IT WORK !!WILL THERE BE VERY MANY CHANGES TO MAKE IT WORK??? JUST A BROKE GUY THAT NEEDS TO KEEP THE COST DOWN AND NOT GET IN OVER MY HEAD!! TY RON.

Answer: Yes, they are the exact same engine and you could swap them easily. There shouldn't be any changes needed at all, they have all the same sensors,

so you can use the existing wiring harness and computer. There might be some nominal odds and ends that are different between the body styles, but mechanically they are the same.

Sunfire Motor Swap

1999 Pontiac Sunfire Engine Size : 4 cylinder 2.2L in-line.
Question : i have a 99 Sunfire and a 2002 Cavalier. my wife ended up wrecking the cavalier (which has the exact same motor) and the insurance company will more than likely total it out. is ti possible to swap the motors and will the mileage have any effect on the transmission?

Answer: It is possible to swap the engines, and is actually a pretty easy swap to do. The transmission should not be affected either way, unless it already has problems. If you do the swap, make sure all the engine sensors are the same, as they change slightly from year to year. Usually it will be OK, and just fit right in. You should use as many original parts from the Pontiac Sunfire as possible, like the intake, exhaust manifold, etc, which will ease the change over.

Question: Would a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire motor fit into a 2003 Chevy Impala?

Answer: Yes, if it is the same engine size it will fit. You would have to do some modification though. The power steering hose routing, engine mounts, A/C pipes, engine sensor harness, etc.

    I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier with a EcoTec 2.2 but I am rebuilding the engine to it though!

    But I am not replacing it with another engine! I'm rebuilding it by replacing it with a turbo kit inside ... And I had looked all over for a turbo kit for a 2004 Cavalier... And I haven't had any luck on locating a turbo kit for my car's year!

    But I do keep on getting other different brands of cars!! And I was wondering if I can use a turbo kit.. That is made for PontiacPontiac G6 and so on!!

    I really do need a good answer on this because!!! Because I am now at a point of just saying F it and just buy a the actual normal parts for my Chevy Cavalier and not put a turbo kit in it..

    No, the tensioner has three bolts. They are kind of hard to see.

    No the engine harness will not work and the computer wont work. All of the mountings are different.

    I'm getting ready to try the same swap except I am putting a 04 ecotech in a 02 Sun fire the mounts appear identical I have a donor car with everything what all will I have to swap I figure the engine and trans and harness in the engine compartment any other advice
